Here is just a selection of things you can do whilst staying at the cottage:
- Visit Glencoe. Lunch or tea at the Kings House Hotel at the start of Rannoch Moor.
- Drive up Glen Etive to Loch Etive where parts of James Bond’s Skyfall was filmed!
- Drive to Mallaig via Glenfinnan, Arisaig and Morar ( White) Sands. Stop at Corpach beside the loch for views of Ben Nevis. Also stop at the Glenfinnan viaduct featured in 4 of the Harry Potter films. You could also go by train from Fort William to Mallaig. The steam train runs in the morning only until the end of October. Early booking essential.
- Get the Gondola up to Aonach Mor. On a clear day views of Skye and Ben Nevis. Braver souls could take their mountain bike up and follow the World Cup mountain bike downhill track.
- Drive to Mull via the Corran Ferry and the Lochaline to Fishnish Ferry. Book a wild life tour on Mull. Visit Calgary Bay and nearby tea rooms for lunch afternoon tea. Sculpture trail from tearoom to beach.
- Get the small foot passenger ferry from Port Appin to Lismore. Lunch at the Lismore Cafe. View Castle Stalker from the Port Appin road lay-by ,boardwalk viewpoint.
- Nature spotting: Red Squirrels to be seen at Inchree-15 minute drive from the cottage. (a) Drive to the Inchree Fall car park. The squirrel viewing screen is just off the car park. (b) Walk to the beach across the bay from Kentallen (15 minutes). Otters have been seen on the beach there. Early morning and dusk are the best times to visit. (c) Cuil bay is another good spot providing there not too many wild campers. Various bird life in the sea, on the beach and in the fields all around.
- Hire/Take your bike to cycle part of the National Cycle/ Walking Track which runs from Oban to Inverness. The track is very close to the back of the cottage. Go up between the garages off the driveway, through the gate, turn right then left up the steps. The track is just beyond the gate at the top of the steps.
- Book a table/ have dinner drinks at The Holly Tree Hotel or the Creagan Inn to coincide with sunset. On a clear day they are spectacular at these venues.
- Drive to the rugged Ardnamurchan peninsula via the Corran Ferry. You could drive all the way to the most westerly point on the British mainland, Corrachadh Mor, which is near to the Ardnamurchan Point. Sanna Bay is another place to visit. Wildlife is all around with Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles regularly spotted here. You could also stop at Strontian and walk in the Ariundle Nature reserve . A quirky tea room is right next to the car park.
